Change

May 31, 2007

We just got the final word today that we will loose the school auditorium for up to 6 weeks.  They will finally install all new seating and lighting.  This will mean that we will do church in the cafeteria for a few weeks.  Hey, it will be fun or at least an experience.  Fidel and I are meeting with Dr.  Werner this Friday to go through and plan for this change.  I am blessed to say that we have a  great relationship with him and the school, so I know that he will do everything that he can for us.

This is one of the reasons why planting a church is so interesting, challenging, fun, unpredictable and everything else all wrapped up in one.  We do need extra help with our set up crew so if you read this……8:30a.m. sharp!

How is your vision?

May 30, 2007

I am trying to write this post with sunglasses on and with my eyes squinting.  About 1/2 hour ago I had an eye exam and the last thing that the eye doctor did was to dilate my pupils.  All I can say it WOW!  I probably shouldn’t have driven home, but you do what you have to do, and I did make it home without any accidents, thank God.

Through all this I was thinking about the passage in 2 Kings 6:15-23 where Elisha prayed that his servants eyes would be opened to see the Big Picture.  After having my eyes dilated I can truly say that my eyes were opened up.  It is remarkable how sensitive they became to light, etc.  When your eyes are opened up spiritually the effect is somewhat similar.  You see things with a different sensitivity and in a very different light.  My prayer is that all of us would see things more from God’s perspective and not from our own.

Things that are on my mind!

May 30, 2007
  • Sunday was really awesome.  All I can say is “If Jesus told us to ask, that is what He meant.”
  • It was so great to see what God was doing in peoples’ lives as they were at the altar.
  • We have the audio done and Anthony is working on the animation for our new video.  This thing is going to be off the chain.
  • I can’t wait for July when we are taking a team over to the Dominican Republic.  There is nothing that will move you more than going on a missions trip.
  • This summer is the time to invite everyone to church.
  • For those that were at Rebecca’s graduation party, I know that you agree when I say that the food was GREAT!

No Perfect People Allowed

May 29, 2007

We are gearing up for our next series “No Perfect People Allowed” and I thought that this picture would be appropriate to post.  As a parent all I can say is, my kids have done a few similar things, and I am sure that I did as well.

Enjoy, as a parent all you can do at times is just to smile.

Here is some great posts that I enjoyed this week.  I hope you like them too:

Shawn Lovejoy’s post on why he’s not an advocate of the “Video Venue” and why he’s determined to NOT be “Pastor of the Big Screen”  Regardless if you agree or not it’s interesting to see his point of view.

Steven Furtick post about “Stuff they don’t teach you in semenary”.    It is really encouraging to hear what God is doing at
Elevation Church .  Keep up the good work!

Perry Noble at New Spring Church had a great post called “Top Ten Misstakes Church Planters / Pastors Make.  Perry has some great thoughts and it is really worth reading.

Tony Morgan really nailed it with a post that he called “The Giant Inflatable Blue Monkey”.   He is right on when He says “What about you? Are you resorting to the “giant inflatable blue monkey” in your business or organization?”.

When should a Church Plant do Missions?

May 25, 2007

I was thinking about God’s timing in our lives.  Isn’t it quite funny how God works in our lives, always on His time and never on ours.  Here is a question that I guess I will try to answer “when should a church plant really get involved with missions?”  There is one line of thought kinda that says that a church should get strong enough first and only after that pay attention to missions.   The people that argue this line of thought would say that “it is missions to grow our church first.”

Here is my take on the subject:

-  When are you strong enough?
-  Will there ever be enough money?
-  Is everything on our terms, or is it on God’s?
-  If we only do what we are comfortable with, and only do what we can.  Do we really need God?
-  Where would we be today if the early believers did that?

I am so blessed and proud to see money coming in every week that goes to Missions.  It is a blessing to Pastor a church that is only 1 1/2 years old, still with many struggles, that has already done 2 Missions Trip.  It is remarkable that there is already a “Iglesia Vision” right now is the Dominican Republic.  I am blessed to have a team of 10 going to the D.R this July and I can’t wait for them to see what God is doing over there.  Does it all make sense? Is all the money there? Are we strong enough? Or do we take God on His word when he told us to GO INTO ALL THE WORLD.  Church, let’s keep on going!

Random Thoughts

May 23, 2007
  • We are doing a video shoot this afternoon, as usual, Fidel has a great part…..all I can say is Rocky.
  • Tonight I’m starting a Class on the book of Revelation. Come and find out what it’s all about.
  • Tomorrow morning I have a meeting with Travis Johnson, Pastor at Life Pointe Church, in Homestead.  I am really looking forward to meeting and learning from him.
  • I am super excited about Sunday.  We are praying that God will move in a Supernatural way.
  • Anthony and Johnny and I are also working on a special video that is just off the hook.  Keep your eyes open.
  • Remember those Bumper Stickers.  Let’s start a chain reaction.
  • I love what it says in Acts 4:13 “…they were unschooled, ordinary men…. and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

10 things to remember in Ministry

May 22, 2007

1.   The greatest gift I can give my church is a healthy family.
2.   My responsibility as a pastor is to lead, not to entertain.
3.   Be myself, that is who God made, and God does not make mistakes.
4.   To lead I must be ahead, otherwise I am just out for a walk.
5.   Focus on the Big pictures.
6.   If I do things I know that I am comfortable with – do I really need God?
7.   Stay relevant.
8.   I can not delegate my prayer life.
9.   B.I B.L.E  (Basic, Instruction, Before, Leaving Earth) – Read it more
10. Failure is a chance to learn, grow, and teach others, not to do the same thing.

Give me that online religion

May 21, 2007

NBC Nightly News did an interesting feature on “Second Life” tonight (Second Life is one of the fastest growing sites on the Internet, it isn’t a Web site, but a 3-D virtual world built and owned by it’s residents)  that  featured Life Church .  If you are interested you can read the story here. or watch it here.    Quite interesting stuff.

Only in Miami?

May 21, 2007

Bumpersticker

I think that this is a Miami thing?  Spanish and English has sort of merged and instead of using the “correct” Spanish word for bumper sticker we decided that almost no one here would relate to it, so instead we used “Bumper Sticker”.  On Sunday, I was a man on a mission, the question was “what is the correct Spanish word for bumper sticker?”.  This is what’s funny, I asked everyone, including the older folks and no one knew, this includes people that predominately speak Spanish, and for some of them Spanish is their only language.  I am sure that you by now might wonder what the right word is, as far as I am told it should be “calcomanía” (If this is wrong, blame Gustavo….)

If anyone out there has a better word, leave a comment.  Anyways, let’s start a chain reaction…….. Put on the Bumper Stickers….

(Below is what our Spanish Bulletin said)
