What’s great about planting a church

There is nothing like church planting.  If someone would ask me what it is like I guess that I would say that it’s kind of like going on a roller coaster.  As a church planter you have tremendous highs, but there are also really low lows.  You can literally go from having one Sunday with the smallest offering in the church’s history then to have the largest offering given the following week. You may feel like your on top of a mountain one day, just to be thrown down off it the next day. One week the entire setup process works perfectly and for some reason there are massive issues the following week.  Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to it.

So what is great about planting a church?

  • It’s like having your first child.  You are proud, scared, learn as you go, pray a lot.
  • Seeing lives changed.
  • The uncertainty, that makes you depend so much more on God.
  • The knowledge that you are doing what God has called you to do.  Remember follow God’s dream for your life.
  • You are forced to wear many hats.  It’s not just preaching, it’s marketing, accounting, purchasing, etc….
  • You learn things that you never thought you would learn.
  • Sacrafice, I know that most of us don’t like it, but it is very important.
  • Did I mention the joy of knowing that you are impacting lives that otherwise might not have been.

One scripture that comes to mind is Ephesians 5:16, it is so important to make the most of every opportunity even though everything might not go as planned.  Faith in the midst of uncertainty, a factor that is crucial, just look at this verse.  One of my all time favorite scriptures is Acts 4:13, there is nothing that substitutes from spending time with Jesus.
