Some background regarding the sale of WMCU. According to Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal the purchase comes less than a week after a planned deal(for a similar amount) by American Public Media to buy WGTS, a Christian radio station in the Washington, D.C. area, fell through.
The Columbia Union College board of trustees voted to stop all negotiations to sell its Takoma Park Christian radio station WGTS. The college, which is controlled by the Seventh Day Adventist Church. In a turn of events, the board decided to “rescind the action to enter into negotiations to sell the radio station license,” according to a statement from the college. Personally I would love to hear more from TIU regarding this choice. As far as I have seen, there is nothing on their website that explains this decision to sell. The only information that is given is what you can read on WMCU’s web site If you want to leave a comment to Trinity International University you can do so by clicking on this link.
I am truely sad for the gap that this will leave in our community. I know of several people that have been away from God and the local churches, but for some reason they listened to WMCU. There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Is this that time, only time will tell?
Today is a sad sad, day for south Florida, WMCU 89.7 Spirit FM was sold for 20 million dollars to a secular buyer. The station will now play classical music starting October 1st. As I was just at the Pompano Beach offices at WMCU I am personally sad for the staff and ministry of the radio station. This Ministry has had a tremendous impact on South Florida and will leave a huge gap. I personally would like to thank the staff for all their years of service and hard work.
If you want to read the “explanation” for all this, look at WMCU’s website.
There are a few other stations around that you might want to check out:
Sunday was a great day as we dealt with the second part of our “Hot Topics” series. The entire message can be downloaded from our website. This coming Sunday should be really interesting, since we are dealing with the questions such as “Can a believer loose his or her salvation”, “is it OK to get a tattoo” and “is cremation wrong or right”.
“Blitz the Devil”, I don’t really remember who said it, but I do know that I really like it. Far too many Christians get into a rut of doing the same thing over and over. In some ways I guess that we become predictable. It’s like a football team that does the same plays over and over again, it does not take long for the opposing team to figure out what we are about to do.
Why not “blitz the devil”, do something that is unlikely, something unexpected. Instead of watching that TV show or whatever you always do at a given time do something completely different. Read the Bible, turn off the TV, and take a walk and pray and listen to God. At work, instead of doing what you always do unexpectedly invite someone right out of the blue. Memorize a scripture……… you get the point, just “blitz the devil”. We as Christians should be on the offense and not the defense.
Today, Fidel and I drove to WMCU’s studios in Pompano Beach to do an interview about our “Hot Topics” series that we started last Sunday. It was great to hang out with Kenny and talk about what we are doing as a church. We were only scheduled to do a very short interview so Fidel opted to not speak because as he said “It takes about three minutes for a Cuban to just do the introduction”. Big mistake, as they say “you live and you learn” the short interview turned into about 8 minutes so there would have been room for him.
It was great to hear the many positive comments regarding last Sunday’s message on the occult, horoscopes, etc. We are praying that this series will have a big impact as we explore some tough and very interesting subjects.
They will air the interview in two segments during the “Morning Show” this Friday between 7:30 and 8:45, so tune in if you are interested.
This Sunday we are celebrating our 2nd anniversary, invite everyone you know. Please bring a dessert to share this Sunday. As we often say, Church is just like dessert, so bring a dessert and let’s mingle in between the services.
We are starting the series “Hot Topics” on Sunday. This series is going to be memorable. We have some videos and stuff that will blow you away.
Can you be a Christian and have a cold beer? What does the Bible say about horoscopes and astrology? Is cremation wrong? Bruheria and Santeria, is that real? Should a Christian get a tattoo?
This and many more topics will be covered during our series ”Hot Topics“. Some of life’s toughest questions are the ones that you usually don’t hear about in Church. You got questions, the Bible has answers.
Get ready to face some “Hot Topics” as we begin this series this Sunday.
