Today is a sad sad, day for south Florida, WMCU 89.7 Spirit FM was sold for 20 million dollars to a secular buyer. The station will now play classical music starting October 1st. As I was just at the Pompano Beach offices at WMCU I am personally sad for the staff and ministry of the radio station. This Ministry has had a tremendous impact on South Florida and will leave a huge gap. I personally would like to thank the staff for all their years of service and hard work.

According to news reports Trinity International University did not have to sell WMCU because of any financial problems. They explain that they want to use the money for educational endeavors. Question: Will TIU have the courage to publish how much of the 20 million will go to support the teachers and school they still have in South Florida? Or, will the large majority — if not all— of the proceeds go for concrete in Deerfield? Really … TIU should leave South Florida altogether. They do not deserve the service (and financial backing) of teachers, staff, students, and donors who really care about God, His Word, and His loving, just, and merciful interests in the church and in the world.
What about WKAT?
After 16 years of listening, it all comes down to this: A tear-filled announcement by Maryann that WMCU is off in a few days. Years of big Share-a-thons and the listeners get a recorded announcement and endless recorded music until 9//2007 ? Everyone knows that with a stagnant real estate market, sales do not occur overnight.
I know change is hard for all of us but we should have been told of the pending sale with more than six days notice. I am a day sponsor and my selected date is 10/13, now what?
I am more dissappointed than sad, really. James, Donna, Dwight, Kenny, Ruthie, etc., their jobs? How absolutely cold! Hopefully they had enough notice to take care of their families.

I was devastated when I heard the news. I cried along with them. they have shared the gospel of Jesus Christ for almost a generation. Here in Miami, we know there is much darkness. That is one less flicker of light we have down here. I pray God will raise the standards of the other radios stations we do have. May He get the Glory! Peace and love to the staff of WMCU.
Everyone is writing as though the sale is final. Since the WMCU website does not provide much information I cannot tell whether that is the case. Can anything be done to stop this? I’m sure there are THOUSANDS of listeners that, given the chance, would band together and protest this abrupt sale. Can we do anything at all? I have called several times at TIU (miami) and TIU in Illinois to be given the same message, NO RESPONSE. I asked for the names of the Board at TIU that decided to sell WMCU and they said they could not provide me with that information. Spoke with the VP of TIU in Illinois and pretty much he said there was no longer a dialogue on the sale of WMCU?
Think about it, they profess CHRISTIAN VALUES and they act like the secular media? The listener where the ones that supported the station NOT TIU, the money and support came from ALL OF THE LISTENER’S. TIU has not only betrayed the trust of the christian community but they used the bible verses to HIDE AND COWARDLY use God’s word to make it seem that it had a higher approval? They could have had an open forum on the sale,did they mentioned, of course not. The bottom line is that they acted just like the executives of ENRON, WORLDCOM and to a point like other defunct leaders who use people’s trust for their BENEFIT.
Humm, it sounds just like JUDAsS, betraying the lord for 30 pieces of silver?

Trinity in Deerfiled lied. They sold the station to pay debt with an important accreditation review happening soon. The schools debt ratio wasn’t what ATS or NCA wanted to see. Frankly, it is not in my control to change the outcome. However, I would have more respect for TIU and the board if they told the truth instead of spinning this thing like a top. Pathetic!
