Do you remember the time when you would show up to church and you had no idea what was going to be preached? Remember not having sermon series graphics, video promotions and video bumpers to start each message. For pastors out there, you might remember not having “creative meetings” and all those kinds of things. I can announce now, that for the next three weeks we are going “old school”.
Purposely, I have not prepared more than what I am preaching on this Sunday. It is kind of weird not knowing what I am going to speak about in 2 weeks, but it is also refreshing. I am writing this on Friday afternoon and I am 80% done right now. It can be easy to get in a rut and as we always say “expect the unexpected”. I can promise you this much, this Sunday is going to be great.
Last Sunday, as we finished the series “Vital Signs” I asked the question “Are you breathing yet”? Think about it, breathing is one of those things that we don’t think about, yet we are aware of it and we know the importance of it. There are many people out there that suffer from what I call spiritual asthma. God wants them to live life to the fullest and they are barely scraping by. I ended the message by talking about how to set life goals and I must give proper credit to Mark Batterson who inspired me in this area.
How to Set Life Goals. #1 Start with Prayer. Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God
.#2 Check Your Motives.Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed
#5 Write Them Down#6 Include Others 1 Thessalonians 2:8 We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.
Today is a day of partial celebration as we find out the news that Fidel Castro steps down. My hope and prayer is that this is the steps towards a new beginning for the Cuban people, they deserve it.
Personally I am glad that we still have Pastor Fidel with us here is Miami. The name Fidel comes from the Spanish word “Fidelidad” which mean “Faithful” and I can tell you that Pastor Fidel is just that……
One of our Myspace friends just sent me this video and I love it. I emailed her and told her that I will show it on Sunday. She emailed back and told me that she and her fiance would try to go to church this Sunday. Gotta love the Internet!
In life there are two different kinds of people – thermometers and thermostats. Think about it! A thermometer registers the temperature hot or cold. A thermostat on the other hand sets the temperature.
What kind of person are you? Do you bounce up and down, going through life on a roller coaster, one minute happy and the other minute sad? Are you influenced by external circumstances and in your walk with God you go between the extremes? If the answer to that is yes, then you are like a thermometer, you go with the flow.
As Christians we should be moved by God living in and through us. We should set the temperature and lead the way. Remember, people are starving for leadership.
