We are baptizing this Sunday (Nov. 22nd) right after the service. To follow Jesus and deciding to be baptized is very powerful and a choice that marks the beginning of a journey following Jesus. I always say that baptism is a Public declaration of an internal decision, no one can see what’s in your heart but when you decide to be baptized you are doing in public. Think about some of the very powerful images that goes along with baptism:
- Burial and Resurrection. “…having been buried with Him in baptism and raised with Him through your faith in the power of God, who raised Him from the dead.” – Colossians 2:12
- Cleansing. And this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge[a] of a good conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 3:21)
- It illustrates my new life as a Christian. “When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same any more. A new life has begun!” – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (LB)
