There is a really interesting verse in Judges 8:27 it says “Gideon made the gold into an ephod, which he placed in Ophrah, his town. All Israel prostituted themselves by worshiping it there, and it became a snare to Gideon and his family.”
Earlier in this chapter in verse 22 the Israelites had asked Gideon to become their King but he had declined. He only made a small request, to have some of the plunder. The request of the people to have Gideon as their king show that they did not acknowledge that it was in fact GOD that had given them the favor and the victory. Gideon turn down their offer to make him King but, by his request he will live like one.
Gideon also made this ephod of Gold, to us that does not seem like a bid deal but, Exodus 28 tells us that this was only for the priest. To make the ephod was not Gideon’s business! What Gideon had made was in reality an IDOL!
Who is KING? It’s easy to say that we are not but, sometimes we act like we are. We take and receive the praise for what God had done. Can you trust GOD as KING for your life? Are you building YOUR kingdom or HIS?
